Full Monte

Updated Apr 30, 2026 · 2 min read

The Full Monte is a distinctive twist on the classic Manhattan that’s bound to captivate even the most discerning palates. This delightful blend combines the rich, smoky essence of.

Variations

The Reverse Manhattan

The Full Monte is already a twist on a classic Manhattan, but you can take it one step further by making a Reverse Manhattan. Instead of using sweet vermouth, swap the proportions of rye whiskey and amaro Montenegro. This will result in a more bitter and complex drink that highlights the amaro’s floral notes.

The Full Monte No.2

The Full Monte No.2 is another variation of the drink that uses bourbon instead of rye whiskey. This gives the cocktail a sweeter and smoother taste that pairs well with the amaro’s vanilla and orange flavors.

To make the Full Monte No.2, combine 2 oz. amaro Montenegro, 1 oz. bourbon, and a dash of Angostura bitters in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled and strain into an ice-filled glass.

The Full Monty

For a more tropical twist on the Full Monte, try making the Full Monty. This variation adds pineapple and lime juice to the mix, giving the drink a fruity and refreshing taste.

To make the Full Monty, combine 1 1/2 oz. amaro Montenegro, 3/4 oz. rye whiskey, 1 oz. pineapple juice, 1/2 oz. lime juice, and 1/4 oz. simple syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice.

The Full Monte Sour

If you prefer sour cocktails, try making the Full Monte Sour. This variation adds lemon juice and egg whites to the mix, giving the drink a creamy and tangy taste.

To make the Full Monte Sour, combine 1 1/2 oz. amaro Montenegro, 3/4 oz. rye whiskey, 1 oz. lemon juice, 1/2 oz. simple syrup, and 1 egg white in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with ice.

Ingredients
  • Amaro Montenegro – 2 ounces (60ml)
  • Rye Whiskey (or Bourbon) – 1 ounce (30ml)
  • Angostura Bitters – 1 dash
  • Orange Peel
  • Garnish – Luxardo Maraschino Cherry/bourbon-soaked cherry

Instructions
  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a mixing glass over cracked ice. Stir until visibly chilled or dilution is apparent.
  2. Single strain into a rocks glass over ice.
  3. Express the oil from the orange peel over the glass and line the rim, then discard.
  4. Skewer your cherry of choice and use it as a garnish.
  5. Enjoy!
