Liquid Cocaine

Liquid Cocaine

There’s some disagreement in the drinks world about what exactly a Liquid Cocaine shot contains. Some camps say Jägermeister, overproof rum and peppermint or cinnamon schnapps. And some call for two parts Jägermeister and one part overproof rum, with schnapps optional. Others ditch the rum entirely and include both types of schnapps. And some include all four—now it’s a party. We’ve seen versions calling for 1 1/2 ounces of each, mixing it up with ice and calling it a full-on cocktail.

Make it however you like; the recipe below is merely a starting point. Out of one type of schnapps? Use the other. Not a fan of cinnamon? That’s what peppermint is for. Enjoy both? Use both. Don’t like either? Double the Jäger, add the rum and call it good. Jägermeister is the only constant and truly required element, and despite its bad rap as a party shooter (probably not least because of this very shot), it’s a truly delicious bitter liqueur that plays well with a surprising number of flavors.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 ounce Jägermeister
  • 1/2 ounce 151-proof rum
  • 1/2 ounce cinnamon schnapps (such as Goldschläger) or peppermint schnapps (such as Rumplemintz)
