3 Pamplemousse Cocktails: As Fun to Say As They Are to Make

Even if you are not entirely sure what "pamplemousse" is, we assure you that you should try a pamplemousse cocktail! It is the French word for "grapefruit," and in the context of cocktails, it means grapefruit liqueur.

Combier's Pamplemousse Rose, a popular choice among bartenders, is what we are using for these drinks. It is made from ripe red grapefruit and has a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. When combined with ice and soda, it tastes great on its own, but it is in cocktails that it truly shines. Try these three delicious recipes!

Easy : Bubbles & Pamplemousse

For a brunch cocktail, this simple pairing of fruit liqueur and sparkling wine is ideal. We promise that this formula works with almost any fruit liqueur, but grapefruit is our favorite.

Instructions:

Mix 1 ounce of pamplemousse with 4-5 ounces of French sparkling wine in a champagne flute or coupe. A long twist of grapefruit peel can be used as a garnish; twist it over the beverage to release the citrus oils.

Intermediate: Pample-loma

A Paloma is a treat for those who have never had one. When you add pamplemousse, this tequila and grapefruit soda drink becomes even more refreshing.

Guidelines:

1 1/2 ounces of blanco tequila, 3/4 ounces of fresh grapefruit juice, 1/2 ounce of pamplemousse, and 1/4 ounce of agave syrup (made by dissolving equal parts agave and hot water) should all be combined in a cocktail shaker with ice. Give it a good shake to get it cold, then strain it into a tall glass with ice. Arrange grapefruit wedges as a garnish and pour two ounces of grapefruit soda on top.

Advanced: Brown Derby Redux

A delicious combination of bourbon, grapefruit, and honey is the traditional Brown Derby. The addition of pamplemousse gives it an additional flavor dimension. We suggest using a bourbon with a higher proof, such as Wild Turkey 101, to counterbalance the liqueur's sweetness.

Instructions:

In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, whisk together 2 ounces of Wild Turkey 101, 1 ounce of fresh grapefruit juice, 1/2 ounce of pamplemousse, and 1/4 ounce of honey syrup (a solution of equal parts honey and hot water until dissolved). Put a little orange bitters in there. Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice after giving it a good shake until it is chilled. Use wedges of grapefruit as a garnish.

Raise a glass to the colorful flavors of pamplemousse and have fun trying these cocktails!
