Pink Gin Cocktail

Pink Gin Cocktail

The Pink Gin, a peculiar holdover from the post-Prohibition cocktail era, is hardly ever seen on bar menus nowadays. The original cocktail pays homage to the drink's Navy origins, when medicinal bitters were allegedly added to gin to encourage sailors to take them. It was adapted from Charles H. Baker's classic cocktail book "The Gentleman's Companion" published in 1939. It is as straightforward as it gets without still being a cocktail: gin and Angostura bitters are combined, stirred over ice, and then served in a chilled glass.

Pink Gin Recipe

The Pink Gin is a classic cocktail that showcases the bold flavors of gin balanced with the warmth of bitters. Its simplicity hides a complexity that makes it a must-try for gin enthusiasts.

Ingredients
  • 2 ounces London dry gin or Old Tom gin (for a sweeter profile)
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Garnish: lime twist
Steps
  1. Prepare the Glass: Dash the Angostura bitters into a chilled coupe glass. Gently tilt and rotate the glass to coat the inside with the bitters, then pour out any excess.
  2. Mix the Gin: In a mixing glass, stir the gin with ice until well chilled.
  3. Strain: Strain the chilled gin into the prepared glass.
  4. Garnish: Finish with a twist of lime for a refreshing touch.
Enjoy!

The Pink Gin is a unique and striking cocktail that every gin lover should experience at least once. Cheers!
