Lynchburg Lemonade

Updated Jun 7, 2026 · 1 min read

The Lynchburg Lemonade is named for the Tennessee home of the Jack Daniel’s distillery, but it was actually created in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1980 by a bar owner named Tony Mason.

The original recipe called for sour mix, but we’ll let that remain in the ’80s and instead use freshly squeezed juice and simple syrup. If you’d prefer your drink on the less-sweet side, you can try using homemade sparkling lemonade or a high-quality lemon soda such as San Pellegrino Limonata. And finally, if the Jack Daniel’s legal battle leaves you seeing red, feel free to swap in a different Tennessee whiskey, such as George Dickel or Uncle Nearest.

Ingredients
  • 1 ounce Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 4 ounces lemon-lime soda
  • Garnish: lemon wedge

Steps
  1. Add the Jack Daniel’s, triple sec, lemon juice and simple syrup into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
  3. Top with the lemon-lime soda and stir gently and briefly to combine.
  4. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
